What's Direct Registering?
These footprints I found during my stroll likely belong to a bobcat, fox or coyote using a method of walking called “Direct Registering” (single-line paw prints) and not from the deer, rabbits or squirrels because ….
“Direct registering” is nature's ingenious adaptive gait used by cats, camels, giraffes, foxes and coyotes, which use old forepaw-holds to form a "single-line" low-visibility paw track. They carefully ensure their hind paws fall inside the place of their forepaws. This strategy helps these animals to stabilize themselves particularly on shifty surfaces like sand and snow, and to minimize noise (to escape hunters and surprise their preys) and visible tracks!
Science today is mostly a profitable and sponsored business. Be wise. Don’t sell your attention to “attention merchants.” Get your information by supporting “independent” (non-corporate) scientists (like me) who share uncensored, unsponsored science and useful, simplified insight. I am guided just by my God-given conscience, not by mobs, politics or corporations.
Humans should learn from these animals in minimizing our “footprints” in nature. Interestingly, dogs domesticated by humans have lost this survival skill and jump around too much like their human masters!
